Community Outreach Division

The Covington Police Department and the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are dedicated to strengthening ties between the community and law enforcement by reaching out to the public with interactive programs, providing easier access to resources, and by educating community members. These programs are created for the community to be an active part of making the City of Covington and Newton County a safe place to live, work and play.

Among these programs are: Neighborhood Watch, Citizen’s Police Academy, and a Ride-Along Program. We also have easy-to-use and informative brochures on display in our lobby, as well as downloadable crime prevention tips on our website.

Working together to prevent crime: Many crimes are solved as a result of information supplied by observant residents and business persons. Our Community Outreach Unit provides seminars and discussions to help equip citizens with the knowledge on what to look for; what to be aware of; and general knowledge to make you and your family safer.

Police presentations on public safety issues are available upon request by calling the Community Outreach information line at: (770) 786-7605 or emailing Capt. Craig Treadwell.

Our topics include:

  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Personal Safety
  • Preventing ID theft
  • Commercial armed robbery
  • Preventing car theft
  • Police K-9 demonstration
  • Tour of the Police Station
  • Drug awareness
  • Crimes against the aging
  • Home security inspection
  • Business security inspection

We ultimately hope to empower residents and neighborhoods to strengthen their community by helping us improve the overall quality of life in Newton County. Getting involved is a great way to learn about your community and get to know more about the men and women who serve in law enforcement within Newton County.
