Safer Covington Action Network - S.C.A.N.

What is S.C.A.N.?
SCAN is an acronym that stands for Safer Covington Action Network.  It is a cooperative partnership between the Covington Police Department, the Covington/Newton 911 Center and the City of Covington Fire Department. In this partnership, the Community Outreach Unit will give you tips to help make your neighborhood safer. In turn, you will be our eyes and ears to let us know of suspicious and/or criminal activities.

Through S.C.A.N. — we encourage neighbor participants to get to know each other and their routines so that any out of place activities can be observed, reported, and investigated.

Through S.C.A.N. — we can teach participants techniques to reduce the risk of being victimized in their homes, in their vehicles, and in public places

Through S.C.A.N. — we teach participants the importance of recognizing suspicious activities and sounds. We teach how to evaluate them and then how to properly report them.

Through S.C.A.N. — we teach participants how to make their homes more secure. We show how to properly identify their property and how to look out for each other.

What S.C.A.N. isn't…?

S.C.A.N. is an important crime deterrent program, but is it NOT...

  • A vigilante force working outside the normal procedures of law enforcement
  • A certain guarantee that crime will not happen in your neighborhood
  • A program designed for participants to undertake personal risk to deter crime

If you are interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch Program in your neighborhood – please feel free to email Captain Ken Malcom or call 770-786-7605.
